State Perm Sec, 4 Others Die from Electrocution Caused by Power Surge
An early morning power surge in the Tudun-Wadan Pantami area of Gombe Metropolis has resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including Gombe State’s Permanent Secretary for Special Duties and Regional Coordination, Abdullahi Kulani. Thirteen others sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred on Saturday.
According to the Gombe State Police Command, the surge originated from a nearby transformer and struck just after dawn, catching many residents off guard. The command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Buhari Abdullahi, said officers from the Low-Cost Divisional Police Headquarters responded swiftly to the emergency, securing the area and coordinating the evacuation of victims to local hospitals.
“The officers moved quickly to secure the scene and evacuate the victims for urgent medical care. Unfortunately, five individuals lost their lives and 13 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Abdullahi stated.
The deceased have been taken to three separate morgues: three to the Federal Teaching Hospital, one to the State Specialist Hospital, and another to Bolari Filin Kwallo Mortuary. Injured victims are currently receiving treatment at various health facilities across Gombe State.
Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the affected families. He also assured residents that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the power surge and prevent similar occurrences in t feethe future.
