State Assembly Moves to Replace Deputy Governor Over Prolonged Absence Due to Ill Health

Lawmakers in Taraba State are reportedly making moves to replace Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali, who has been absent from office for over nine months due to a prolonged illness. Sources within the State House of Assembly and top government ranks say discussions have intensified around appointing the current Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Hamman Adama, as Alkali’s possible successor.

 

While no formal proceedings have been initiated, insiders reveal that the Assembly is quietly considering the constitutional process required to remove the deputy governor. One senior official stated that the situation had become untenable, noting, “The deputy governor has been bedridden for months. We can no longer afford to operate without a fully active deputy in such a critical role.”

 

In response, the state government has dismissed the reports as unfounded. Emmanuel Bello, Special Adviser to Governor Agbu Kefas on Media and Digital Communication, issued a statement saying, “No one has nominated anyone to be Deputy Governor to Dr. Agbu Kefas. Disregard any fake news.”

 

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official communication from the deputy governor’s office regarding his health or the alleged plans for his replacement. However, a senior official from Alkali’s office acknowledged awareness of discussions aimed at relieving him of his duties.
