Soyinka, Falana are ‘Troublemakers’, Former Senate President Attacks Activists, Says South West Always Want to Topple Governments
Third Republic Senate President, Ameh Ebute has described the duo of Nobel Laureate, prof Wole Soyinka and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN) as troublemakers.
Ameh who was reacting to Monday’s comments by Falana at a Revolution event in Lagos, said president Muhammadu Buhari is not a dictator contrary to statements by Falana.
He said,“We should avoid this type of hate language, especially against the leadership of the nation.
“And I am sorry to say that there are people who have traditionally regarded themselves as troublemakers in this country in the name of civil rights activism, and they are from a particular region of this country.”
The former senate president accused the south west region of always plotting to bring down governments.
“If you go into the archive, you will discover that the troublemakers they are on the pages of newspapers, using the press to bring government down and are mostly from the southwest. You have the types of Falana, you have Wole Soyinka, and quite a number of them. They should let peace reign to enable people go about their business rather than heating up the polity,” Ebute said.
Ameh justified the arrest and detention of convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services. He condemned Sowore’s calls for revolution in the country.
He said, “If I am the President of this country and they say my government should be toppled through revolution, I won’t take it kindly with you.
“It is a treasonable felony. If you are calling for the overthrow of government, is that not treasonable? It is the law.”
Falana had on Monday at the event which was briefly disrupted by security agencies while calling for the release of Sowore backed calls for the revolution in the country adding that dictators would no longer be allowed in the country again
