Soludo Reveals Last Conversation with Late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah at Funeral Service
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, on Friday shared his last conversation with the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away at 52 on July 27 in the United Kingdom. Speaking at Ubah’s funeral service held at St. Peter Clever Parish, Umuanukam Otolo, Nnewi, Soludo recounted that death was never part of their discussion during their final meeting.
Soludo recalled meeting Ubah in May, when he inquired if the senator was considering a new political ambition. Ubah had confirmed his interest, suggesting that the only way forward would be for Sir Emeka Offor to convene a meeting. Soludo later confirmed that both of them agreed on this plan, and they were waiting for the meeting to take place when Soludo received the shocking news of Ubah’s death. “I did not believe it, until a senator called to tell me,” Soludo said, adding that he reached out to Ubah’s wife, who confirmed the tragic news. “That was not what we discussed and agreed on,” he reflected.
During the funeral service, Cardinal Peter Okpaleke, who officiated the ceremony, remembered Ubah as a philanthropist whose life positively impacted many people. He praised Ubah’s dedication to service and urged the living to emulate his example of kindness and selflessness. “His life of service to humanity was exemplary for all to emulate,” Okpaleke said, urging people to live lives that would be remembered after they are gone.
Senator Uche Ekwunife, Director General of the South East Governors Forum, also paid tribute to Ubah, calling him an “avatar” and a sports enthusiast committed to youth development. “You were an avatar, sport enthusiast, a rare gem committed to youth development, whose kind comes only once in a lifetime,” she said, highlighting Ubah’s leadership and kindness. “The impact you made and the lives you touched were second to none.”
Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District, was laid to rest at his family home in Umuanukam, Otolo Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Uchenna, and five children.
