Soludo Pledges to End 21-Year Power Outage at Odumegwu Ojukwu University
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has committed to resolving the 21-year-long electricity outage at the Uli Campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University in Ihiala Local Government Area. This assurance was made during a working visit to the campus, as disclosed in a statement by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.
The governor emphasized that the planned restoration of power will not only benefit the university but also the surrounding Uli community. Acknowledging the campus’s organized environment, Soludo noted the pressing need for extensive infrastructure improvements to enhance the institution’s functionality.
“After 21 years without electricity, students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli Campus, are set to experience power supply,” Soludo declared. “Even the Uli community will benefit from this intervention. We are committed to reconnecting power to Uli and the campus as part of our mission to leave no one behind.”
Soludo reiterated his administration’s dedication to advancing education, describing it as the foundation of Anambra’s future. He highlighted the government’s focus on quality education, aligning with its Productivity, Prosperity, and Competitiveness Partnership (PPCP) framework.
In addition to addressing the power issue, the governor promised to provide internet and Wi-Fi access across public spaces within the campus, aiming to boost students’ digital capabilities. “The world today is about what you can do, not just the certificate you possess. Digitalisation will give this campus an advantage,” he stated.
He also announced plans for the gradual construction of internal campus roads and urged the local community to safeguard the institution’s facilities.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Deh, commended the governor for his commitment to education, describing him as education-friendly. Similarly, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kate Omenugha, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, including assistance with accreditation processes.
She added, “We are developing our strategic vision. Revitalizing the Uli campus has the potential to transform it into the Japan of Africa.”
The governor’s visit was attended by top government officials, including the Chief of Staff, Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief Protocol Officer Chinedu Nwoye, and members of the Anambra State House of Assembly. Local government representatives and community leaders were also present to lend their support to the initiative.
