Six Self-Styled Pastors Arrested Over Fake Miracle Scam in Ondo
Six men claiming to be pastors have been arrested in Idanre, Ondo State, for allegedly orchestrating a fake miracle scam targeting local residents.
The suspects—Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola—were apprehended on February 16 during an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Ondo State Police Command in collaboration with Community Safety Officers (CSOs).
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police spokesperson, said preliminary investigations indicate the men posed as religious leaders, staging false miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the trust of unsuspecting members of the public. They reportedly exploited the faith and vulnerabilities of their victims by promising solutions to financial, health, and personal problems.
“The suspects defrauded victims through various forms of false pretences, operating in a coordinated manner with assigned roles to create the appearance of legitimacy,” Mr. Jimoh stated.
Authorities are continuing to determine the full extent of the scheme, including the number of victims, the total financial loss, and whether additional collaborators remain at large. The six suspects are currently in police custody and will face charges once the investigation is complete.
The police urged residents to remain cautious of individuals using religion or claims of miracles to solicit money. They advised verifying claims, avoiding suspicious financial demands, and reporting any dubious activities to the nearest police station.
Mr. Jimoh reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to maintaining public safety in Ondo State through intelligence gathering, community partnerships, and targeted operations.
