Shock as Warri Woman Jumps to Death from Flyover

The communities of Warri and Uvwie in Delta State are reeling from shock following the tragic suicide of a woman in her 30s, who jumped from the Ekpan flyover last Saturday. The incident has sparked widespread dismay and prompted calls for preventive measures to be put in place.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the woman, who has not been identified, scream that she was “tired of life” before falling backward from the flyover and fatally injuring herself on the busy NPA Road below. Initially, some onlookers thought she was recording a skit video.

Residents are urging the government to take immediate action to prevent future tragedies. A local resident, who chose to remain anonymous, suggested erecting high protective rails on flyovers and bridges. “It’s not enough to lament this incident,” he said. “The government should install protections to prevent such acts.”

Delta State Police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident was not a skit, as speculated in a viral video. “We heard of the incident, but by the time our officers arrived, her body had already been removed,” he stated.

The incident has also sparked broader discussions on pedestrian safety and mental health. Warri resident Mr. Efe Charles suggested that police and citizens should discourage pedestrians from walking on flyovers. “These structures are meant for vehicles. Keeping pedestrians off them might prevent similar incidents,” he said.

Another resident, Francis, questioned whether the woman’s actions were influenced by a recent similar incident involving Nick Imudia, who reportedly committed suicide in Lagos. “There are too many questions on my mind,” he expressed.

A local journalist criticized bystanders for their inaction, noting that many recorded the event instead of attempting to help. “It’s sad that people under the flyover were busy videoing and commenting instead of organizing a rescue,” he lamented.
