Several Trapped as Building Collapses in Niger State
In Minna, the capital of Niger State, a one-storey building collapsed on Friday, leaving several individuals trapped under the rubble. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene and have successfully rescued seven people, who are currently receiving medical care at Minna General Hospital.
The incident occurred in the bustling New Market Area of Minna. As of now, the cause of the collapse remains undetermined. Manual debris removal has begun, with machinery expected to expedite the rescue of those still trapped.
Hussaini Ibrahim, the Director of Information and Special Duties at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the ongoing rescue efforts. Additionally, Bako Ismail, General Manager of the Niger State Urban Development Board, revealed that the building had been illegally converted to a story building. The board had previously attempted to halt this unauthorized construction.
