(JUST IN) Massive Attack in Niger State: Market Burned, 30 Killed, Dozens Abducted
Armed men believed to be bandits operating from the Kainji Lake National Park forest in Kabe District, Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, have attacked a village market, killing 30 people and abducting numerous others.
The attackers targeted Kasuwan Daji market in Demo village, setting it on fire, looting goods—mainly food items—and opening fire on villagers. Many victims were reportedly taken through routes leading into the surrounding forest.
Confirming the incident, Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said a joint security team has visited the scene. “Over 30 people lost their lives during the attack, and some were kidnapped. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims,” he stated.
Authorities are investigating the incident and working to secure the area.
