JUST IN: Trump announces capture of Nicolás Maduro following U.S. military action in Venezuela
The United States says it has taken Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro into custody following missile strikes on Venezuela, according to a statement by President Donald Trump.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said U.S. forces carried out what he described as a large-scale military operation against Venezuela and its leadership. He claimed that Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,” Trump wrote.
He added that the operation was conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement agencies and said further details would be released later. Trump announced that a news conference would be held at 11 a.m. at Mar-a-Lago.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no independent confirmation from U.S. defense officials, Venezuelan authorities, or international bodies regarding the reported strikes or the alleged capture of Maduro.
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
