Seven Escape from Ilesa Prison During Storm, FG Responds
The Federal Government has initiated a nationwide manhunt for seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, after a heavy downpour compromised the prison’s security infrastructure in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Abubakar Umar, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m., describing it as a “force majeure” that enabled the inmates’ escape.
In response, the Comptroller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the breach. The NCoS confirmed that it is collaborating with other security agencies and local community leaders to track down and recapture the fugitives.
The service has appealed to members of the public to assist by providing any useful information that could aid in locating the escaped inmates and returning them to custody.
