Senegal Walks Off Pitch in AFCON Final After Penalty Awarded to Morocco
The Africa Cup of Nations final was disrupted on Sunday after Senegal’s national team walked off the pitch in protest over a refereeing decision during their match against Morocco.
The incident followed the disallowing of a goal scored by Senegal, a decision that drew immediate and visible frustration from the players. Moments later, the referee awarded a penalty to Morocco, further escalating tensions on the field.
In response, the Senegalese players left the pitch, bringing the final to a temporary halt. Match officials and tournament organizers intervened in an effort to resolve the situation and persuade the team to return.
The sequence of decisions has triggered widespread discussion among supporters, analysts, and former players, with many questioning the officiating in one of the tournament’s most important matches.
