Senator Ubah Strongly Condemns Murder of YPP Ward Chairman in Anambra

The Anambra South Senatorial District’s Senator, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah of the APC, has fervently denounced the appalling murder of Chief Joseph Ezenwegbu (Joe Mohale), the Young Progressive Party (YPP) Chairman of Nanka Ward 1 in Orumba North LGA, Anambra State.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Joseph Ezenwegbu was fatally shot on Saturday night, shortly after orchestrating a meeting of YPP stakeholders and party members, which welcomed Hon Princess Chinwe Nnabuife in Nnaka.

Senator Ubah, in a statement condemning the act, expressed grave concern: “This is not reflective of the Anambra we know. It underscores the alarming desperation of certain political actors in Anambra, a perilous trend that urgently requires addressing by holding the perpetrators accountable.

“We vehemently denounce this regrettable incident, which, if left unchecked, could escalate. It’s also unacceptable that anyone would intimidate Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, the honorable member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, and the YPP candidate for the rerun election in the Federal Constituency.

“The Appeal Court had ordered a re-run election in some sections of Nanka community in Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, following a petition challenging Hon. Nnabuife’s victory at the polls by a former seat holder and the 2023 candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the same position, Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo.

“Hon. Nnabuife was declared the election winner and sworn in after the 2023 General Election, while Hon. Ezenwankwo sought a court declaration in his favor. The question remains, who fears Hon. Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, leading to such desperate threats and a brutal killing?

“It’s regrettable that the perpetrators, labeling the late Chief Joseph Ezenwegbu (Joe Mohale) a saboteur while committing this vile act, are the true underminers of Nanka people’s fundamental rights to association, belief, and other democratic principles. This gruesome incident has regressed us to the days of thuggery and violence experienced in the era of the PDP in Anambra state, from 1999-2006, a period we cannot allow to resurface.

“This tragic incident has plunged my supporters into deep mourning, but we are undeterred and will exhaust all legitimate means to seek justice for Chief Ezenwegbu, our fallen hero who was murdered while in active service.

“I extend my condolences to the deceased’s family and will take full responsibility for the burial, as well as support the welfare of his surviving immediate family, including his three-year-old child, Ifeanyichukwu.

“We urge all our supporters in Nanka to remain calm, assuring them that every effort will be made to unearth the truth behind this reprehensible act and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We implore the security agencies to ensure the arrest of those who committed this heinous crime against humanity, along with their sponsors, to face the full force of the law.

“We offer our deepest sympathies to the wife and family of the deceased and pray that God grants him eternal rest,” concluded the statement.

Senator Ubah’s resolute stance and call for justice reverberate amidst the shock and grief over the loss of Chief Joseph Ezenwegbu, promising unwavering efforts to seek justice and restore peace in the region.
