Senate Rejects nomination of Lauretta Onochie for INEC position
The Senate has refused to confirm Lauretta Onochie, the Special Assistant to President Buhari on New Media as a Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.
You would recall that there have been serious outcries disapproving of her nomination.
It seems the Senate bowed to pressure from Civil Society Organisations, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and other Nigerians, by its decision.
The Senate, however hinged it’s decision on the Federal Character Principle, stating that it adhered strictly to the Act.
The Senate further explained that Onochie is from Delta State and the state already has Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu as the Chairman, Legal Services, INEC.
The Senate’s resolution was based to the recommendation of the Senator Kabiru Gaya, led Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
