Rivers: Tension as Gunmen on Speedboat Abduct Fubara, Police Launch Manhunt
Security forces in Rivers State have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of Aribibia John Fubara, a Director with the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service. The abduction took place on the evening of Saturday, August 24, 2024, in Port Harcourt.
According to eyewitnesses, six gunmen arrived at Okrika Waterfront near Marine Base around 8:20 PM in a speedboat. After firing several shots into the air, they carefully identified Fubara as their target, forcibly taking him aboard their boat before fleeing to an unknown location.
Fubara, who is also a Knight of Saint Christopher in the Anglican Communion, remains unaccounted for as of the time of this report. His kidnappers have yet to make contact with the family. However, the incident has been officially reported to the police by his younger brother, Emmanuel Fubara.
Speaking on the incident, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the abduction. “The command is aware of the situation, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered tactical units to ensure the victim’s safe release. A manhunt is underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” she stated.
