Tea Vendor Arrested for Beating 20-Year-Old to Death Over Alleged Theft of Bread

In Jigawa State, a 40-year-old tea vendor named Abdulrashibu Ya’u has been apprehended by police for allegedly beating a 20-year-old boy, Hassan Garba, to death. The incident occurred on Monday at approximately 5:00 PM in Sararai village, Dutse Local Government Area.

According to local sources, Ya’u accused Garba of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol. The tea vendor reportedly locked the boy in a room and assaulted him with a stick. Neighbors, hearing the boy’s cries for help, were unable to intervene due to the locked door.

Police spokesperson DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the details, stating that the village head of Sararai reported the incident. Upon receiving the information, police officers arrived at the scene, arrested Ya’u, and transported Garba to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital. The boy was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic customs.

During interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, Ya’u admitted to the assault, explaining that he was driven to violence after Garba’s thefts, which he had previously reported to the boy’s parents without any resolution. Ya’u confessed to binding Garba with a rope and beating him severely.

The suspect is now facing charges and will be brought before the court to answer for his actions.
