Rivers Security Guard Arrested for Stealing Customer’s Car

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of Meshark Monday, a security guard accused of stealing a customer’s car along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

According to a statement released on Sunday by police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, Monday, 27, was detained by officers from the Olu Obasanjo Division in the early hours of May 2. He was intercepted driving a Toyota Corolla in a suspicious manner near the G.R.A junction, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in his capture on Aba Road.

The statement revealed that Monday, a native of Ogoni in Rivers State and an employee at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to the theft. Despite working at Geepap for two years, his driving skills were unknown to his employer. He admitted to stealing the car, which was at the company for repairs, intending to sell it to alleviate his financial difficulties.

Geepap’s General Manager, Mr. Godfrey, confirmed that Monday’s ability to drive was not known to them, as the vehicle was parked for maintenance.

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged residents to install security measures such as cameras and alarms to prevent similar incidents. Meanwhile, the case has been charged to court, and investigations are ongoing to identify any accomplices in the car theft ring.
