JUST IN: Akwa Ibom Monarch Kidnapped by Hoodlums in a Series of Abductions
Hoodlums have abducted HRM Ogwong Okon A. Abang, the paramount ruler of Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. The monarch was reportedly taken from his palace in Ebughu around 9 PM on Saturday.
This incident is the latest in a series of kidnappings in the area. Recently, Dr. John Robbin Esu, a doctor from the state, was also kidnapped and remains in captivity. The medical community has since suspended services in protest, highlighting the growing insecurity in the region.
The kidnapping of the paramount ruler marks another troubling incident within the Oron nation, which has seen a surge in criminal activities. The area has become increasingly vulnerable, with the recent abduction of the wife of Chief Asukwo Eweme Ulap Okon, a notable political figure, further intensifying concerns about local security.
Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Waheed Ayilara, along with other security commanders, was en route to Ebughu Palace at the time of filing this report, indicating ongoing efforts to address the situation and ensure the monarch’s safe return.
