Rivers Is Notorious for Rewriting Election Results, We Must Stop It – Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that Rivers State has become notorious for rewriting election results and called for urgent action to end the practice.

Amaechi made the remarks while addressing members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in Rivers State. He urged party members to begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, warning that failure to stop electoral malpractice could lead to voter apathy and continued bad governance.

“We are new members of the ADC, it’s the adopted party of the coalition. Most importantly, have your eyes on 2027, and to do that, please go home and start registration,” he told supporters.

Amaechi emphasised the need to mobilise grassroots participation through a committee that would operate from local governments down to the wards. According to him, such a structure is necessary to determine the coalition’s strength ahead of the elections.

He expressed concern over what he described as a disturbing trend of election result manipulation in Rivers State, stating, “Our state is notorious for writing results, and we must stop them. When people hear that results are already written, it discourages them from coming out to vote.”

Amaechi also used the platform to criticise the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, warning that the economic hardship Nigerians are experiencing could worsen if Tinubu secures a second term.

“Currently, Nigerians are complaining in President Tinubu’s first tenure. Imagine what the second tenure will be like—then, you’ll be dead and buried,” he said.

He urged citizens to remain politically active and resist the temptation to give in to despair, stressing that meaningful change would only come through credible elections and the rejection of election fraud.
