Rivers Crisis: Tinubu, Fubara, Odili Hold Crucial Talks in Aso Rock

President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a pivotal meeting at the presidential Villa, Abuja, with Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers, Peter Odili, former governor of the state, and various stakeholders.

This meeting has been prompted by the escalating face-off between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who also serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Notable figures attending include Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Ngozi Odu, Rivers deputy governor.

The political tension in Rivers state has been on the rise over the past few weeks, with Fubara and Wike embroiled in a power struggle for control of the state’s political structure. This dispute has spilled over into the Rivers House of Assembly, giving rise to factions within the state legislature.

In the midst of this turmoil, at least nine commissioners have resigned from Governor Fubara’s cabinet, adding to the complexity of the political crisis. The meeting at Aso Rock is seen as a crucial attempt to find a resolution and restore stability to the political landscape in Rivers state.
