Revocations Shake Abuja’s Central Business District: Wike Grants 3-Month Lifeline to Embassies and Corporations

Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revoked 21 land allocations in Abuja’s Central Business District (CBD). The decision, exercised under Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act 1978, was made due to ongoing contravention of development terms.

Prominent names affected by this revocation include Lowe Lintas, Tourist Company of Nigeria, Coscharis Motors, CFA Motors, and Chidol Properties, among others.

In a related development, the FCT Minister has extended a three-month grace period to 189 titleholders who have acquired Building Plan Approvals but are yet to initiate development on their properties. This grace period aims to encourage property owners to expedite development or face title revocation for continued non-compliance with development terms.

Notably, this extension includes 21 embassies, such as Ireland, France, Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkey, Angola, and the Philippines, alongside various government agencies and institutions.

The Minister’s move is seen as a decisive effort to push forward development in the Federal Capital City (FCC) and ensure that land allocations align with the stipulated terms of development. Failure to comply within the specified timeframe may result in the revocation of property titles, as outlined in Section 28(5)(a) & (b) of the Land Use Act.
