Boko Haram Ambush Military Escorts, Civilian Travelers, Scores Killed
In a tragic turn of events, suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a deadly ambush on military escorts and civilian travelers along the Gwoza-Limankara-Uvaha road. This devastating attack resulted in the loss of one soldier’s life and claimed the lives of three civilian passengers.
The incident unfolded at approximately 5 p.m. as soldiers and civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) members were providing security for commuters heading to Goza, Askira-Uba Local Government Area in Borno, and the northern regions of Adamawa State.
During the ambush, the assailants set five commercial vehicles, including a security patrol van, ablaze, leaving many passengers unaccounted for. Fortunately, some female passengers who had been abducted by the insurgents were released later that evening.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) for the region, who visited the scene of the attack, provided additional details. He confirmed that the ambush resulted in the tragic loss of a soldier and the lives of five passengers. Furthermore, five vehicles, one of them a military van, were reduced to ashes.
The incident has raised concerns among local authorities and politicians. Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, expressed his distress over the escalating violence in the Goza area, which has been occurring with alarming frequency. Senator Ndume called on the military to intensify efforts to combat insurgents, urging them to take the fight to the insurgents’ strongholds. He emphasized the need for providing logistical support to civilians who are willing to participate in the fight against terrorism and to help liberate the affected region.
As the nation mourns the loss of lives in this senseless attack, the call for enhanced security measures and proactive action against insurgent groups like Boko Haram grows louder, with hopes that peace and stability can be restored to the region.
