Remi Tinubu Reacts to ‘Na Your Mama Be This O’ Diss Song by Delta Nursing Students
The Office of the First Lady of Nigeria has urged the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences to handle the disciplinary measures against students involved in a recent viral incident with fairness and understanding.
A video circulating on social media showed a group of student nurses enthusiastically chanting during the arrival of First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu and Delta State’s First Lady, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba. The event marked the South-South zonal launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Midwives Support Programme.
While the chants appeared spontaneous and good-natured, reports surfaced that some students from the nursing college were issued queries by the institution’s management for their conduct during the visit.
In response, the First Lady’s Office released a statement on Friday, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach. The statement, signed by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the First Lady, acknowledged the institution’s authority to enforce discipline but highlighted that students often express excitement in a light-hearted manner.
“The Office of the First Lady of Nigeria respects the right of institutions to uphold discipline,” the statement read. “However, it is important to recognize that students, in moments of excitement, often express themselves in a jovial manner.”
The event also included the donation of 10,000 professional kits to midwives in the South-South region, as part of efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and reduce maternal and infant mortality nationwide.
Mrs. Tinubu expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended by the Delta State Government and praised the enthusiasm of the students, nurses, and women’s groups in attendance. She described the occasion as a positive and uplifting experience.
The First Lady further stressed the importance of an educational environment that fosters both discipline and freedom of expression, stating that students should feel safe to express themselves while maintaining decorum.
