“Release Nnamdi Kanu and Write Your Name in Gold” – Ohanaeze Tells Tinubu Ahead of Enugu Visit
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has expressed optimism ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Enugu State today, voicing hopes for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, it was confirmed that President Tinubu would commission several projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration during his one-day visit to the state.
Ohanaeze, through its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, welcomed the visit as a sign of what it described as a “gradual attitudinal change” by the federal government toward the Igbo people. The group underscored the importance of equity and social justice in achieving national unity and sustainable development, adding that marginalization and insecurity only breed discontent and crises.
The statement read in part: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses immense delight over the gradual attitudinal change of the Federal Government towards the Igbo. National peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development are the outcomes of equity and social justice. It is hardly possible for any group to remain complacent under severe existential threats, including orchestrated marginalization and external instigation of insecurity.”
Ohanaeze further stated that President Tinubu has an opportunity to solidify his legacy among the Igbo and Nigerians at large by ordering the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The group expressed hope that the President’s visit would mark a turning point in addressing longstanding grievances in the region.
