Real Reason Behind NSCDC, FFS, NIS Recruitment Portal Collapse Revealed
The ongoing recruitment exercise by Nigeria’s Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has been marred by persistent technical failures, leaving thousands of job seekers stranded and frustrated. An investigation has now revealed that the root cause of the portal collapse is the overwhelming volume and size of documents being uploaded by applicants.
Sources within the ICT company managing the recruitment platform confirmed that the system was not designed to handle the massive traffic and simultaneous bulk uploads currently being demanded. Applicants were required to submit a wide array of documents—including First School Leaving Certificates, WAEC results, university and postgraduate certificates, as well as various awards and credentials—during the initial online application stage.
“The system is not built to handle such heavy traffic and bulk document uploads simultaneously,” a senior technical source said. “Asking every applicant to upload everything at once is what’s choking the platform.”
The technical glitches have forced many young Nigerians to camp overnight in cyber cafés across the country in a desperate attempt to complete their applications. Some applicants, citing slow internet speeds and system timeouts, have reportedly resorted to leaving their original documents with café operators—an unusual and risky practice.
In response to mounting public complaints, the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the CDCFIB, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has approved a major change in the application process. Applicants will no longer be required to upload their documents online at this stage. Instead, they will present their credentials physically during the documentation or screening phase.
This change is expected to ease the pressure on the platform and prevent further disruptions. The recruitment portal, which was initially scheduled to open on July 2, has already experienced multiple delays and is now expected to reopen on Monday, July 21, 2025, following necessary upgrades.
Applicants, however, remain in limbo. Many have spent large sums of money and countless hours attempting to navigate the faulty system. “This is not the norm. People are desperate,” said Ekpedeme Nsuk, an applicant in Abuja. “We sleep at business centers hoping to be among the lucky few who can upload before the system crashes again.”
Another applicant, Mary Pang, a resident of Nyanya, said the situation has become financially and emotionally exhausting. “The portal keeps timing out. Sometimes, you’re almost done and it just goes blank. We’ve spent thousands of naira and still can’t submit. It’s frustrating.”
Operators of cyber cafés in high-demand areas like Nyanya have begun working around the clock to accommodate applicants. “You need to see the desperation on their faces,” said one café owner. “When we try to close, they plead with us to stay open. And when you see a young man, your age or older, shedding tears because of this opportunity, it breaks your heart.”
The CDCFIB oversees recruitment into four of Nigeria’s most sought-after paramilitary agencies—the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigerian Correctional Service. The demand for positions remains high amid rising youth unemployment.
As the portal relaunch nears, applicants and stakeholders alike are hopeful that the revised, document-free process will bring an end to the disruptions and offer job seekers a fair and accessible path to public service.
