The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party PDP Lagos State Chapter, Engr Adedeji Doherty has called on the Lagos State Government led Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission LASIEC Hon Justice Ayotunde Phillips to be on serious alert as it concerns the Local Council Elections scheduled for today.
In a released state he pointed out that some anomalies have been noticed and they should be urgently attended to before the issues discredit the Elections.
The statement read:
I hereby wish to bring to the notice of the Chairman of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission LASIEC, Hon Justice Ayotunde Phillips, that reports reaching my office have it that, two major issues capable of discrediting the elections scheduled for later today have been noticed in some LGA’s and LCDA’s in the state viz:
- As early as 2am this morning, there have been said to be illicit movement of election materials expected to be made use of at the designated places for the Local Council Elections, to the extent that fraudulent thumb printing of some ballot papers on a very large scale were noticed.
- The reports also have it that heavily armed young men suspected to be working for the All Progressive Congress APC have been noticed in Shomolu, Kosofe, Odi-Olowo, Oshodi Isolo, Badagry, Alimosho, Ikeja, Mushin, Epe, Lagos Island and Ikorodu, LGA’s and it is believed that they have been deliberately planted in these places to forment trouble.
The reports are rife that some of our collation agents and monitoring team have already had slight face-offs with these hoodlums and were asked to stand down by some leaders of the party.
We hereby call on the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, the head of the DSS in the State and other security agencies to take note of these reports and act accordingly to forestall any break down of law and order during the Elections.
It is also most pertinent for Hon Phillips to note that she should not allow the good name she has built over the years to be smeared by some group of individuals within LASIEC, who are bent on rubbishing the already laid out plans for a free and fair elections.
We also implore her to note that this is her opportunity to disabuse the minds of the international observers and the international community who already have the negative notions about elections in Lagos State and indeed across the nation.
We are law abiding individuals in the People’s Democratic Party in the state, hence this clarion call.
Signed:
Engr Adedeji Doherty
