RCCG Calls on Public for Evidence in Investigation of Homosexuality Allegations Against Suspended Pastors
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has reached out to the Nigerian public, urging individuals to come forward with any evidence relevant to recent allegations of homosexual misconduct involving two of its ministers. The plea comes in the wake of RCCG’s suspension of Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa, who face accusations of inappropriate relationships with young church members.
On Tuesday, a report from SaharaReporters revealed that both AdeBello and Mayowa had been removed from their roles pending an investigation. This move was confirmed through a memo dated October 28, 2024, in which RCCG’s National Overseer, Pastor Sunday Akande, indicated the church’s commitment to a thorough inquiry into the claims. Akande also confirmed the suspension of the two ministers, stating that the allegations will be meticulously investigated to uphold RCCG’s commitment to transparency and holiness.
In an official statement, Pastor Akande invited the public to submit any pertinent evidence regarding the case, specifying that evidence could be forwarded through RCCG’s designated channels: via email at rccgadm@gmail.com or by phone at 09039000700. “We encourage anyone with pertinent evidence that could assist our investigation to come forward,” Akande said, emphasizing that only directly related, verifiable evidence will be considered.
Following the allegations, Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello publicly denied the accusations in a social media statement late Tuesday, declaring his innocence and expressing disappointment over what he described as a misinterpretation of his initial silence. “I’ve never engaged in any improper conduct as alleged,” he wrote, aiming to defend his character and clear his name.
Pastor Akande reiterated that RCCG remains firmly rooted in its principles of holiness and integrity. He assured the public of the church’s dedication to justice and transparency, stating, “We will not tolerate actions that compromise our core values or attempt to cover up wrongdoing. We appreciate any assistance in this matter and ask that individuals or groups with tangible evidence come forward.”
The investigation, led by RCCG’s Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, is expected to conclude within two weeks. Until then, both AdeBello and Mayowa remain indefinitely suspended from all ministerial duties.
