Qatar Imposes Stricter Visa Rules, Bans Nigerian Men from Traveling Alone
The Qatari Ministry of Interior has introduced stricter visa rules for Nigerian travelers, citing concerns over recent cases of overstays. Under the new policy, applicants must provide proof of a confirmed return transfer and a hotel booking before their tourist or transit visas can be processed.
The rules also place tighter restrictions on eligibility. Only women and families are now permitted to apply, while Nigerian men are barred from traveling alone unless accompanied by family members. In addition, only reservations at five-star hotels will be considered valid for visa applications.
The ministry confirmed that the measures took effect immediately and will also impact pending applications. Qatar has long been a favored destination for Nigerian tourists, attracting thousands of visitors annually, but the new requirements are expected to drastically reduce access for individuals planning leisure or short-term trips to the Gulf nation.
