PSC Chairman Announces Record-Breaking 288,266 Applications in Just One Week for Police Recruitment
The Police Service Commission (PSC) Chairman, Solomon Arase, has commended the fervor displayed by Nigerian youths in their pursuit of a career with the Nigeria Police Force. Within a span of just one week, an astounding 288,266 applications have flooded the PSC, signaling an impressive interest in joining the police ranks.
Arase, in a statement released on Tuesday, conveyed his appreciation for the enthusiastic response from aspiring candidates. He assured the applicants that the PSC is committed to conducting a transparent and merit-driven recruitment process, emphasizing the importance of meritocracy in building a capable and dedicated police force.
The Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, echoed this sentiment and encouraged young Nigerians to continue visiting the recruitment portal to submit their applications. As of 7 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, the portal had already received a staggering 288,266 applications.
Among these applications, 217,105 have successfully met the basic requirements necessary for consideration in the upcoming stages of the recruitment process. An impressive 217,300 young individuals have applied for general duty positions, while 70,676 have sought specialist roles. Unfortunately, 69,426 applications have been rejected due to failure to meet the stipulated requirements, with 46,868 of these rejections attributed to exceeding the age limits.
The recruitment portal officially opened on Sunday, October 15, 2023, and will remain accessible until November 26, 2023, aligning with the Federal Character Commission’s requirement of a six-week window for eligible candidates to apply for government agency vacancies.
The stated online application prerequisites encompass being of Nigerian origin, possessing a National Identification Number (NIN), holding a minimum of five credits in not more than two sittings in WAEC/NECO or their equivalents with credit passes in English and Mathematics, and falling within the age range of 18 to 25 years. Furthermore, applicants must provide a valid email address and phone number, and it’s important to note that SSCE statements of results or certificates issued before 2015 will not be considered for this recruitment exercise.
Importantly, the application process is free of any monetary implications. As the PSC continues to process this unprecedented number of applications, aspiring officers remain hopeful of the opportunity to serve their country in the Nigeria Police Force.
