Protesters Loot Lawmaker’s Office in Buhari’s Hometown

Angry protesters stormed and looted the constituency office of Hon. Aminu Jamo, the representative for Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua federal constituency, on Thursday. This incident is part of a wider wave of protests sweeping across Nigeria, sparked by public outcry over worsening economic conditions and policy changes under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The protesters, expressing their frustration over the elimination of fuel subsidies and other economic policies, blocked major roads in various states, demanding immediate policy reversals. The nationwide unrest has led to several fatalities and forced at least three state governors to impose curfews in a bid to restore order.

Local resident Abdul’aziz Manzo reported that the protesters targeted key figures in Daura, including the homes of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Katsina State Speaker, and the Daura Local Government chairman. “The office of Hon. Aminu Jamo was severely damaged, with almost everything inside, including the roofing sheets, taken by the protesters,” Manzo stated.

In a related development, protesters attempted to break into the residence of former President Buhari. Eyewitnesses reported that a bonfire was set up in front of his house, with demonstrators chanting their grievances. The situation was diffused when a person from Buhari’s residence addressed the crowd, asking them to select a spokesperson to record a message for the former president.

The protests underline growing discontent with the current administration’s policies, reflecting a deepening crisis in public confidence and economic stability. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with heightened security measures in place to prevent further violence.
