JUST IN: Atiku Abubakar Condemns Threats Against Igbo Community in Lagos

H.E. Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, has issued a strong condemnation of recent threats targeting the Igbo community in Lagos and other Southwest states.

In a statement shared on social media, Abubakar decried the call for a protest under the hashtag #IgboMustGo, which demands the forced relocation of Igbo people from these states. He emphasized that such rhetoric is deeply troubling and undermines the principles of unity and coexistence enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.

Abubakar warned of the dangers posed by inflammatory rhetoric, drawing parallels with the catastrophic events in Rwanda, where hatred and bigotry led to widespread violence. He urged the Nigerian government and relevant authorities to take immediate action against those inciting ethnic division, including investigations, arrests, and prosecutions.

He stressed that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and that the Igbo community, along with other ethnic groups, plays a vital role in the nation’s development. Abubakar called on all Nigerians to stand united against divisive rhetoric and to support tolerance and understanding.

The statement also highlighted a concerning lack of response from authorities, stressing the need for prompt action to address this threat and prevent further escalation.
