Protest: Kaduna Residents Stage Highway Blockade in Outcry Against Bandit Attacks
In a fervent response to a recent surge in bandit attacks, residents of Goningora community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State blocked the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Thursday. The protest stemmed from a bandit assault the night before, resulting in two fatalities, including a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, along with multiple kidnappings and injuries.
As reported by Channels Television, the aggrieved residents demanded increased security and protection from the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. The protest disrupted traffic on the vital Abuja-Kaduna highway, leaving numerous motorists and travelers stranded.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another clash in the region, where soldiers successfully neutralized the notorious bandit kingpin, Boderi Isyaku, and some of his accomplices. However, the aftermath of the recent bandit attack saw an armored vehicle set ablaze by the assailants during the military’s attempt to repel them.
One protester, amidst the demonstration, pointed at soldiers and expressed in pidgin English, “If you people cannot help us, who will help us?”
