“Presidential Ticket No Longer Reserved for Obi” – Abure-Led Labour Party Faction
The Labour Party (LP) faction led by Julius Abure has announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election is no longer exclusively reserved for Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. The faction clarified that all its political tickets will now be open to all qualified Nigerians, following a decision made at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.
In a statement released after the meeting, the NEC declared:
“NEC in session also reviewed the decision of the National Convention to reserve its Presidential and Governorship tickets for Peter Gregory Obi and Alex Otti respectively. Consequently, all tickets of the party from Presidency to the House of assemblies are open to all qualified Nigerians.”
This decision follows growing tensions within the party, with disagreements over the authority of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who recently convened a stakeholders’ meeting that resulted in the appointment of a caretaker committee led by former senator Nenadi Usman.
