Fashola emphasized that citizens’ expectations of the president might be inflated, stating that providing water, ensuring environmental sanitation, business permits, and rent payment are not responsibilities falling under the purview of the Nigerian president.

Fashola defended his actions, stating, “I won’t contrive that kind of thing. Those who know me know who I am. I don’t invent facts. I deal with facts as they are.” He expressed that if the incident diffused tension and aided the country in pulling back from the brink, it was worth the allegations.
