President Tinubu to Attend AFCON 2023 Final in Abidjan, CAF Confirms
Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football Federations (CAF), announced that Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be present at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. The much-anticipated match will see Nigeria facing off against hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan, this Sunday.
Motsepe shared this information during a press conference held at the Palace de la Culture in Trechville, Abidjan, on Friday. Responding to a question about the possibility of Africa hosting the World Cup again, the South African business mogul suggested that Nigeria should submit a bid. He stated, “The Nigerian president (Bola Tinubu) is coming to watch the final on Sunday. I will have a conversation with him about it.”
Notably, Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, was present during the thrilling semi-final clash in which the Super Eagles secured their spot in the final by defeating South Africa 4-2 on penalties. The final between Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire is scheduled to kick off at 9 pm Nigerian time on Sunday, promising a spectacle for football enthusiasts and dignitaries alike.
