President Tinubu Bans Purchase of Petrol-dependent Vehicles
President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive banning the purchase of petrol-dependent vehicles by members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The President has instead mandated the procurement of compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles for all government ministries, departments, and agencies.
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced this directive on Monday, emphasizing Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring energy security and driving utility while cutting down on high fuel costs. The move aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources, with CNG-powered vehicles recognized for their lower emissions and cost-effectiveness.
Addressing FEC members at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to energy reforms, stressing that progress hinges on embracing change. He urged government officials to lead by example in adopting CNG vehicles, signaling to the nation the seriousness of the government’s commitment to a sustainable energy future.
Furthermore, the President instructed FEC members to reject any proposals for purchasing traditional petrol-dependent vehicles, urging them to prioritize value-driven procurement of CNG-compliant vehicles. Tinubu’s directive underscores his administration’s determination to leverage Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to alleviate transportation costs for citizens and improve overall living standards.
