President Tinubu Appoints Six Chief Medical Directors for Federal Hospitals (Full List)

 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed six Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) to lead federal hospitals in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafiya, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan. The appointments, which take effect from the respective dates of assumption of office, are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare sector.

 

Among the newly appointed CMDs is Prof. Olusegun Sylvester Ojo, who will head the Federal Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State. A seasoned medical professional, Prof. Ojo previously served as the pioneer Chief Medical Director of the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.

 

In Gombe, Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Abdullahi has been reappointed as the CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, following an impressive first term. His reappointment reflects the administration’s confidence in his leadership. “Prof. Abdullahi’s tenure has brought significant improvements to the hospital, and we expect even greater achievements in his second term,” a senior government official stated. His new term officially began on September 5, 2024.

 

Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum, who had been serving as Acting CMD, has now been confirmed as the substantive CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State. His tenure officially commenced on December 6, 2024.

 

At the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafiya, Nasarawa State, Dr. Ikrama Hassan has been appointed CMD. A consultant physician, Dr. Hassan previously served as the Medical Director of the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its elevation to a teaching hospital.

 

In Maiduguri, Dr. Ali Mohammed Ramat, a renowned Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, has been appointed as the CMD of the newly established National Orthopedic Hospital. Meanwhile, in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Dr. Haruna Abubakar Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, will lead the newly established Federal Medical Centre*l.

 

Congratulating the newly appointed and reappointed CMDs, President Tinubu urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery. “Healthcare is a cornerstone of national development, and we expect these leaders to drive positive change in their respective institutions,” the President emphasized.

 

The appointments, which are for a four-year term, align with the administration’s broader commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that all Nigerians have access to quality medical services.
