President Tinubu Appoints First Female DG of NEMA

In a historic move, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Zubaida Umar as the Director-General (DG) of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), marking the first time a woman has held this position.

The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, who highlighted the significance of Umar’s appointment in promoting gender inclusion within the administration.

Umar brings over two decades of experience in various fields, including Human Resources, Finance, and Administration. She holds memberships in prestigious professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration. Additionally, Umar is certified by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.

Prior to her appointment as DG of NEMA, Umar served as the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, where she played a pivotal role in modernizing and digitizing the institution’s operations.

Ngelale emphasized President Tinubu’s expectations for Umar to instill financial and operational discipline within NEMA while transforming it into a proactive and performance-driven emergency response agency. The president has tasked Umar with prioritizing prevention and climate change readiness in NEMA’s core mandate.
