Portable Sentenced to Three Months in Jail for Assaulting Police Officer, Obstruction of Arrest, Theft
Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by the Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State, over charges of assault, obstruction of arrest, and theft. The court, presided over by Magistrate Babajide Ilo, delivered the ruling on Wednesday, offering the singer the option of paying a N30,000 fine in lieu of serving the full sentence.
According to police prosecutor Olumide Awoleke, the charges stem from incidents that occurred in November 2022 in Okeosa, Ilogbo. Portable was accused of attacking a police officer, interfering with an attempted arrest, and stealing music studio equipment.
The charge sheet revealed that Portable conspired with others, who are currently at large, to commit felony assault. He was specifically charged with physically attacking a male officer identified as Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, as well as stealing items including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
The court found him guilty on two counts: one for assault and the other for resisting arrest and theft. For the first count, Portable was sentenced to one month in jail with an option of a N10,000 fine, and for the second, he received a two-month sentence with an option of a N20,000 fine.
