Portable Arraigned Over Assault, Theft Allegations, Remanded in Prison
Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge bordering on assault, theft, and obstruction of law enforcement.
The Ogun State Police Command, through its spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the charges include assault, causing harm, stealing, and resisting arrest.
Portable’s arraignment followed a viral video circulated on Sunday showing the singer in police custody. The arrest was linked to a petition reportedly filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.
According to the prosecution, the singer allegedly assaulted Ashabi and several other individuals, including police officers, at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on January 1. Other alleged victims listed in the charge sheet include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
The police further accused Portable of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million. The vehicle reportedly belongs to Ileyemi Damilola and was said to have been purchased from Wally Dex Auto.
During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple reportedly testified as witnesses to the alleged assault. Ashabi herself was not present in court.
The singer was also accused of assaulting and obstructing a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
The presiding judge denied Portable’s bail application, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge ruled that the officer must appear before bail can be considered.
Portable was subsequently remanded in custody. The court adjourned the matter, with a new bail hearing fixed for January 19, 2026.
