Police Withdraw Wanted Notice for Bauchi Cleric After Ribadu’s Intervention

The Bauchi State Police Command has withdrawn the wanted notice issued for the Bauchi-based Islamic Cleric, Malam Idris Abdulaziz, following the intervention of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu. This decision comes as a result of emphasized efforts towards peaceful coexistence.

Initially declared wanted on February 5, 2024, by the Bauchi State Police Command for contempt of court, the notice against the renowned Islamic cleric has been suspended. This announcement was made on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, by the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Auwal Musa Mohammad.

In a bid to foster peaceful relations, CP Auwal Musa Mohammad facilitated a peace pact between Malam Idris Abdulaziz and the Bauchi State Government at the Police State headquarters. This pact, signed and witnessed by key figures including the Director of the Department of State Security Services (DSS), the Commandant of the Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Bauchi state, aims to address the underlying issues contributing to strained relations.

Emphasizing the importance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect, CP Auwal Musa Mohammad underscored the need for Malam Idris Abdulaziz to refrain from using the pulpit as a platform for derogatory remarks against other preachers/clerics. He urged the cleric to prioritize peace and harmony in his preaching endeavors, irrespective of differences in opinion or religious beliefs.

Expressing gratitude to the Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, for his commitment to the peace accord, CP Auwal Musa Mohammad reiterated the importance of upholding the terms of the agreement by all parties involved.

In a statement delivered by the Bauchi State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, it is hoped that this reconciliation marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation and understanding in Bauchi State.
