Police Successfully Rescue Abducted Worshipper in Zamfara Mosque Incident
The Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued one of the worshippers who fell victim to a brazen abduction at a mosque in Tsafe town. The incident occurred during the morning prayer session, where armed bandits seized several worshippers.
Contrary to earlier reports, the police spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, clarified that three individuals were abducted during the nefarious act. In a press statement issued on Friday, Abubakar revealed that one person has been successfully rescued and subsequently reunited with their family following a thorough medical examination.
The armed assailants, suspected to be armed bandits equipped with sophisticated weaponry, targeted the Juma’at mosque on Hospital Road in Tsafe Local Government Area on February 29, 2024, at approximately 05:30 am. Fortunately, the majority of the worshippers managed to escape, leaving three elderly individuals in the clutches of the criminals.
Upon receiving the distressing information, the police swiftly mobilized their tactical teams, initiating a comprehensive search and rescue mission. The pursuit led them close to the Dangajeru Forest, where the bandits were compelled to abandon one of the victims who couldn’t keep pace with their movements. This individual has been successfully rescued.
ASP Abubakar asserted, “The operation is still ongoing with the view of rescuing the other two remaining victims.” The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Police Command, MD Shehu Dalijan, reassured the state’s residents of the ongoing collaborative efforts between the police and the state government to restore normalcy and security in the region.
As the operation continues, the authorities remain committed to ensuring the safety of the abducted individuals and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
