Police React to Assault on Cab Driver by APGA Federal Rep Ikwechegh
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced an ongoing investigation into an alleged assault involving a cab driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, and Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives from Abia State. The incident reportedly took place on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja.
According to reports, Ikwechegh threatened Abuwatseya during the altercation, stating he could make the cab driver “disappear.” Eyewitness accounts and a video shared on X by former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, revealed further threats from Ikwechegh, including intentions to physically harm Abuwatseya and confine him to his generator house.
In response to the incident, the NPF confirmed that the FCT Command is handling the case after Abuwatseya filed an official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters. The police also issued a warning against the misuse of the Inspector General of Police’s name or office during disputes, emphasizing that such actions compromise the integrity and impartiality of the police force.
“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the incident and is committed to addressing the matter,” the NPF stated on its X handle.
