JUST IN: Abia Lawmaker Ikwechegh Arrested for Assaulting Cab Driver

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Abia lawmaker Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for allegedly assaulting a cab driver in Abuja.

Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Abuja Command, reported that Ikwechegh is currently at the Maitama Police Station, where he is undergoing questioning regarding the incident.

The victim, identified as Stephen Abuwatseya, reported the assault to police officials, stating that the altercation occurred while he was delivering a package to Ikwechegh. Disputes arose over the method of delivery, which led to the physical confrontation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that during the altercation, Ikwechegh allegedly slapped Abuwatseya and dismissed his concerns with a contemptuous remark, “You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police.” This response has raised alarms about the lawmaker’s apparent disregard for law enforcement authorities.

In light of these events, FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The police have pledged to conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry, ensuring that justice is served. Following the investigation, appropriate legal actions will be taken based on the findings.
