Police, Local Hunters Rescue 13 Travellers Kidnapped on Their Way to Kogi State
In a coordinated effort, the Kwara State Police Command and local hunters successfully rescued 13 individuals who were abducted in Oke-Ero Local Government Area on December 21. The victims were traveling to a wedding in Kogi State when they were intercepted by gunmen.
Acting on credible intelligence, the rescue operation was carried out with the support of the Oke-Ero Local Government Security Initiative. The abductors, six in number and some disguised in military uniforms, engaged the security team in a gun battle at their hideout in Idofin-Igbana. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the operatives, the kidnappers fled with injuries, leaving the captives behind.
The rescued individuals include three women and ten men, hailing from various locations such as Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero, Ilorin, Ogbomoso, and a group of trailer drivers traveling to Kogi. Two of the victims sustained minor gunshot injuries and were promptly treated at a nearby hospital before being reunited with their families.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, praised the resilience of the operatives and the cooperation of the local communities in providing timely information.
