Police-Led Security Forces Arrest Two Notorious Secessionist Group Members Terrorizing Anambra
In a significant development stemming from an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping incident reported last year in Aguata, joint security operatives, acting on credible intelligence, have successfully apprehended two notorious members of a secessionist group. The arrest, carried out around midday on August 22, 2024, involved a coordinated operation by the Military, Civil Defence, and other security forces.
The suspects, whose names are currently withheld, have been implicated in a series of criminal activities, including kidnapping, car theft, and armed robbery, across the Uga, Ekwulobia, Umuchu, Nkpologu, and Ezinifite areas of Aguata. One of the suspects was found with a gunshot wound on his leg, while the other, a fake pastor responsible for preparing criminal charms for the gang, has confessed to his involvement in the crimes. The suspects are now assisting the police in tracking down other members of the group. They have also provided critical information about the location of a shrine used to prepare the charms and where some of the stolen vehicles are hidden.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, reassured the people of Anambra State that the Command remains committed to addressing all reported cases, particularly those involving kidnapping and armed robbery. He emphasized that the trust placed in the police for the protection of lives and property is taken seriously and is being actively upheld.
