Police Kill Six Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Four Victims in Abia
Operatives of the Abia State Police Command have killed six suspected kidnappers and rescued four abducted victims in a successful operation carried out in Osokwa, Osisioma, Ngwa Local Government Area. According to a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the victims were rescued after being held for five days.
The victims—Onwuka Chimela, Onwuka Emeh Chinaza, Isreal Ikemsinachi Ukandu, and Ibiam Kingsley—were reportedly abducted on March 9 at about 9:30 a.m. while travelling in a Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road in Obingwa. Acting on credible intelligence and using advanced technological tools, the police tracked the suspects to a three-bedroom bungalow that served as their hideout.
Upon arriving at the location, officers were met with heavy gunfire but responded with superior force, neutralizing six of the suspects. The police recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.
The victims, though visibly shaken, were unharmed and taken to the Police Hospital for medical evaluation. Commending the operatives for their bravery, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, assured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to tackling crime across the state.
“This operation sends a strong message to criminals that Abia State is not a safe haven for criminal activities,” Isa said, urging the public to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station.
The police added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang who escaped with injuries, reinforcing their resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of residents.
