Police Foil Cult Clash in Anambra, Arrest Suspect
A swift intervention by officers of the Anambra State Police Command prevented a violent clash between two rival cult groups over the weekend, leading to the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect, Maduka Okoye.
Okoye, a native of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area, was apprehended by operatives of the Enugwu-Ukwu Anti-Cult Unit. According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers acted on credible intelligence to stop what could have been a deadly confrontation in the Ezichike community of Abagana.
At the scene of the incident, police recovered three expended cartridges from a pump-action gun. Okoye, who admitted to being a member of the Baggars Confraternity, claimed he was drinking at a local beer parlour with a friend when members of the rival Axe Men Confraternity attacked.
The prompt police response restored calm to the area. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing members of both cult groups, particularly those involved in the shooting.
