Police Bust Kidnap Plot, Arrest 3 for Demanding N2 Million Ransom
The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended three suspects involved in a plot to kidnap a local man after demanding a ransom of N2 million. The arrests occurred after the police intervened in a potential abduction case, preventing a violent outcome.
The suspects, Babangida Abdullahi (29), Mohammed Abubakar (27), and Yakubu Sani (30), were arrested by officers from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division in Karu Local Government Area. The police disclosed that the trio conspired to extort Ibrahim Idris, the uncle of one of the suspects, threatening to kidnap him if he didn’t pay a ransom of N2 million.
According to a statement released by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects contacted Idris, demanding the ransom to avoid being kidnapped. Fearful for his safety, Idris complied and left the requested sum at a specified location. The suspects collected the money and subsequently shared it among themselves.
The police moved quickly once the ransom exchange took place, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Although three individuals were apprehended, the police reported that one accomplice narrowly escaped and remains at large. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the fugitive.
The arrested suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation. This incident underscores the importance of vigilant policing and community awareness to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety. The police commend the swift action of their officers and encourage the public to report any suspicious activity.
