Police Arrest Two Brothers, Accomplice Over Killing of Abuja Lawyer
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Princess Chigbo, in an incident linked to “one-chance” armed robbery operations.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller Dantawaye, to track down those responsible for the crime.
According to the police, operatives of the Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, used digital intelligence to trace the victim’s mobile phone. The operation, carried out between January 5 and 10, 2026, led officers to Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata communities in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
The suspects were identified as Saifullahi Yusuf, 22; his brother, Ishau Yusuf, 24; and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia. The two brothers are residents of Dan-Tata community, Dei-Dei.
Adeh said preliminary investigations showed that the suspects belonged to a “one-chance” robbery syndicate that has operated intermittently within the FCT, particularly during festive periods.
Investigators alleged that on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., Princess Chigbo boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway, unaware that the occupants were criminals. Shortly after she entered the vehicle, the suspects reportedly wound up the tinted windows and threatened her with weapons while demanding money.
Police said the victim was assaulted and later pushed out of the moving vehicle after she allegedly refused to comply with their demands. She died from injuries sustained in the attack.
The suspects were also accused of stealing her Android phone, which was later sold in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. Police said Minka’ilu Jibril received ₦30,000 from the proceeds, Saifullahi Yusuf received ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect still at large, identified as Musa, shared the balance.
Items recovered from the suspects included five scissors, two daggers, two knives, a long chain and a pair of pliers.
Princess Chigbo’s body was earlier discovered along the Kubwa Expressway, with her handbag and personal belongings found nearby. Documents recovered at the scene suggested she was a staff member of the FCT High Court.
The arrest comes amid growing public concern over violent crime in Abuja, following the recent killing of a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, which drew widespread condemnation from professional bodies and residents.
